The Viking Longhouse at Cranborne Ancient Technology Centre was officially opened on 14th May. Our Society  gave raffle money to the project and also made a collection when we visited at the very start of the project. As a result a runic carving has been made for us on one of the wooden beams.

The Viking Longhouse is splendid and a wonderful achievement. Unfortunately our photographs do not do it justice.
The Longhouse is massive and up to 30 children will be able to stay in it at one time.  They will be sleeping on furs and eating off of wooden platters.

The Society was honoured to be asked to organise and lead a walk in the northern part of the New Forest for the Hampshire High Sheriff and his friends. Alan Lovell is in the centre of the photo. He is aiming to walk in various parts of the county during his year in office which started in April. The walk was led by Pat Whiteing  with our President, Rowan Brockhurst, acting as back marker and purveyor of background information.

Sunday 13th June 2010

As usual, the Summer Lunch was preceded by a walk of about 4.5 miles that was led by Cyril. The day was pleasantly warm and sunny and 34 members enjoyed a typical New Forest walk through beechwoods and heath. On the way, we encountered this awkward kissing gate which needed 3 burly walkers to operate!.

The lunch was extremely well attended and was held in Robin's garden which looked immaculately groomed, very lush and full of colour as the above photos demonstrate.

This was an 8 mile walk from Corfe Castle to Swanage which was led as usual by Ruth. The day started out cloudy and dull but the sun soon appeared as can be seen from the photo of some of the group on Swanage beach. We all returned to Corfe on the steam train after a most enjoyable walk.

The Summer Lunch this year was hosted as usual by Robin but due to the constant wet weather, it was too wet underfoot to sit outside in his delightful garden. Because rain looked imminent it was decided to sit indoors for lunch. Half way through however, the clouds cleared, the sun came out and everone immediately moved to the tables and chairs set out on Robin's    drive.

This photo was taken on the evening walk on 22nd April 2015 which was led by Rowan Brockhurst. It was taken on the Castleman Trail, Ringwood and was a chance for walkers to sample the very first of the Society's evening walks.
